The Art of Maurice Sendak Lanes, Selma G. and Maurice Sendak

The first major retrospective and biography of the author-artist best-known for Where the Wild Things Are. With 261 illustrations including 94 full-color plates and what is billed as an "original Sendak pop-up" (but which is really a pull-the-flap illustration). Mounted to p. 81 is a tiny strip book (four leaves) called Where the Wild Horses Are. The reprints of this book only have pictures of the Little Red Riding Hood "pop-up" and the Horses book.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). A near fine copy in pictorial cloth with a clear printed acetate dust jacket. This copy is signed by both Sendak and Lanes and dated October 1980. Sendak's bibliographer Joyce Hanrahan's copy was signed at a book launch party and is signed the same way. This copy includes the original publisher's mailing box (unmailed).
