In fantastic cosmetic, mechanical, and now optical condition after we replaced a badly chipped prisms (1 of 4) and cleaned/blackened the frosted sides of them all, views from this powerful, yet supremely portable, classic Japanese bino are breathtaking!
Made for those with a lot of experience with such optics, most were purchased, and then barely used for decades, by those unfamiliar with the size and power and couldn't handle them offhand. We've been collecting and using such for the past seven years, almost on a daily basis. So can say with confidence and a fair degree of expertise that 16X is the maximum for the aperture (50mm). And, with practice, is useful offhand on flora and fauna. Even our own moon looks great through them, but you'll want a tripod for the other planets and stars.
Focus controls now ultra smooth after removal of old grease and application of NYE synthetic damping grease. Original leather carry strap conditioned and held on with a set of ultra strong keepers
