The word khatam means “incrustation” in Persian, and kari means “work”. KhatamKari is one of the oldest and most refined handicrafts. This Persian art dates back to at least the 15th century.
Khatam Kari, or marquetry, is a captivating art form that involves adorning wooden objects with intricately cut pieces of wood and bones then carefully fitted together as you see on the surface of this box.
It is an old box and has some small damage as shown in picture (missing tiles and wood pieces) ..would not even notice them unless inspect closely. However, the price has been adjusted accordingly as these often cost a lot more (see comparable boxes in last photos)
