This is a solid resin replica of the skull from a juvenile Lambeosaurus. The replica is a relief as the real skull is half way embedded in rock with only one half of the skull shown.
Lambeosaurus was a large crested Hadrosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous. The juvenile skull emphasizes the function of the crest in sexual selection as it was essentially non existent in juveniles, but became prominent as the animal grew.
Hadrosaurs are considered to be herbivorous generalist feeders that thrived on low quality foods growing near the ground. These animals had evolved the most efficient food chewing mechanism of any animal, employing partial cranial kinesis and tooth batteries consisting of hundreds of teeth. These creatures chewed their food unlike anything alive today, but this allowed them to extract nutrients from tough to digest foods.
