Rare Japanese Tanuki carved from keyaki wood
A Tanuki is a Racoon Dog, part of the Canid family that looks like a Racoon and is satirized in Japanese culture for its large “sacs”. (Look up some stories, they’re fascinating)
It is signed by the maker
5” tall by 3-1/2 wide
He has a piece of his nose missing and a few small pieces broken off on the butt area. He also has a small splinter on right ear(I think or he could have been carved that way)
