Where did the jade carver get the inspiration to carve this? Is it a mythical beast? A demonic mask? The jade quality is similar to the Liangzhu Culture jade pieces. Was this carved from a piece of old jade. So many questions! Regardless, as a jade carving, it is beautifully carved with lots of details. On rove headpiece are fine double “commas” that are found in Warring States jade carvings. The jade object has been in a collection no doubt as a study piece. It is 2.35 inches wide, 2.25 inches high and 0.5 inches in thickness.
